The 7th edition of the India leg of Sun Tech Days kicked off in Hyderabad in India on February 27, 2008.
More than 4000 participants who had registered on Day 1 made a beeline for the giant convention hall which seemed
dwarfed by the huge crowd to listen to the keynote session by Rich Green, Executive Vice President, Sun Microsystems.
Incidently it is Rich's second consecutive visit to India for Sun Tech Days and by his own admission, he was bowled
over not just by the magnitude and scale of the event but also by the creativity,
passion and the knowledge levels of the vibrant developer community here in India.
In his keynote presentation titled "The Platforms That Power The Network Economy", Rich Green highlighted the growth of the network economy in India,
the evolving application development space and encouraged the developer community to innovate more through open source communities.
Delivering the keynote address he said, "Developers are the backbone of software development and open communities; they create new possibilities,
inspire thought and drive innovation. Open source is all about participation and as an organization, which bases its business model on open source,
Sun strongly believes that sharing and collaborating with the developer community is the key to building opportunities".
Revolving around the theme of "Open Opportunities" the sessions for this year's event covered technologies such as JavaFX(TM), JRuby, Java(TM) Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE),
GlassFish(TM) project, NetBeans(TM) Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE), OpenJDK(TM), Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME), OpenSolaris(TM),
SOA using OpenESB and Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS).
The event also saw the presence of two highly respected people from the tech world; participate in Sun Tech Days India for the very first time. The two stalwarts are -
Ian Murdock, vice president, Developer and Community Marketing, Sun Microsystems and founder of Debian Linux and David Axmark, one of the founders of MySQL, an organization that was acquired
by Sun for $1 billion early this year.
It wasn't just technology all the way. The day ended on a high note with a rock show by one of India's leading pop bands- Euphoria.
The band had the large crowd swooning to their hit numbers.
Day 2 and 3 has more in store for the participants.
Keep watching this space for updates, photos, comments and much more...
