Quick Start Installation Instructions

Overview

You can install Java CAPS in either of two ways:

  • In the "classic" repository-based style, where adapters are installed as SAR files.
  • In the "modern" style without a repository, where adapters are accessed as JCA resources.

Quick Start Installation Steps: Repository-Based

This summary assumes you will perform a complete installation of all base products on a single Windows machine. It also assumes that you might optionally also install additional products on the same machine. Within the base products, only the Repository, NetBeans IDE, and Application Server are required for design-time operations. However, it is recommended that you install all base products. For example, installing Enterprise Manager at this point in the process will later allow you to upload eWay adapters and other SAR files, to download additional repository-based plug-ins, and to access tools for monitoring and administration.

  • To install the base products, you will run JavaCAPS6.exe and, in the installation wizard, supply values for various parameters.

For steps and parameter values, refer to the base products installation procedure.

  • To install additional "classic" products, you will start the Repository, start Enterprise Manager, and upload one or more SAR files.

For steps and parameter values, refer to the installation procedure for additional repository-based products.

To Install Java CAPS Base Products, Including Repository

Performing a complete installation of base components on a single Windows machine (minimum 2.0 GB RAM) requires approximately 30 minutes.

  1. Navigate to the [$$tbd$$] directory.
  2. Double-click JavaCAPS6.exe to start the installation wizard.
  3. Supply site-specific parameter values, and retain default parameter values, as noted below.

Default installation parameter values are as follows:

Component Installation parameter name Default value
Java CAPS Java CAPS location C:\JavaCAPS6
Java Developer Kit JDK location (JAVA_HOME setting, such as:)
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_13

To Install Additional "Classic" CAPS Products and Components

The following steps are intended to summarize. For details on specific products and components, refer to the installation documentation.

  1. Open the C:\JavaCAPS folder.
  2. Start the repository by double-clicking the start_repository shortcut.
  3. Start a new browser session and point your browser at the URL for the Java CAPS Uploader:
    http://localhost:12000
  4. Log in to the Uploader:
    • username: Administrator
    • password: STC (masked)
  5. Use the Administration tab to install additional products in the form of SAR files, as needed:
    • The Core Products folder includes: Alert Agent and SNMP Agent, eIndex and eView, and migration tools.
    • The eWay folder includes adapters for CICS, COM, LDAP, TCPIP, and many others.
    • The OTD folder includes message libraries for EDIFACT, HIPAA, HL7, X12, and others.
    • The eGate API Kit folder includes API Kits for many operating system platforms.
    • The JMS Grid folder includes an alternative JMS for many operating system platforms.
    • The Auxiliary folder contains a browser plug-in for SVG graphics displayed by Enterprise Manager.
  6. As needed, use the Downloads tab to load files locally so you can extract their contents.

This concludes the steps for installing "classic" CAPS products. To exercise them, you can try out any of the repository-based end-to-end scenarios supplied with Java CAPS or the various adapters.
