This topic describes how to use the keyboard shortcuts to work with the Palette.

To perform this task...

Follow these steps...

Change the focus to the Palette |
- Press Ctrl-Alt-X. The Palette scrollbar is now active.
- Press the up arrow and down arrow keys to move the scrollbar.

Change the focus to the component list |
If the focus is on the Palette:
- Press Tab, Tab. The first component in the list is highlighted.
- Press the up arrow and down arrow keys to scroll through the component list.
If the focus is not on the Palette:
- Press Ctrl-Alt-X.
- Press Tab, Tab. The first component in the list is highlighted.
- Press the up arrow and down arrow keys to scroll through the component list.
As you scroll through the component list, the list might not scroll beyond the limits of the scrollbar. To continue scrolling through the list of components:
- Press Shift-Tab while the list item has the focus. The scrollbar now has the focus.
- Press the up arrow or down arrow to scroll to the point where the list is visible.
- Press Tab. The focus returns to the last component that was selected.

Go to another category in the component list |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press Tab. The focus changes back to the scrollbar.
- Press the up arrow or down arrow key to scroll so the next category head is visible.
- Press Tab, down arrow. The first component in the next category is highlighted.
- Press the up arrow and down arrow keys to scroll through the component list.

Open a category |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press Tab, spacebar. The next category opens.
As you scroll through the category list, the selected category might not be highlighted. To determine which category head is selected:
- Change the focus to the scrollbar.
- Press Tab, down arrow. The first component in the selected category is highlighted.

Close a category |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press Shift-Tab, spacebar. The category with the focus closes, and the focus changes back to the scrollbar.

Select the first or last component in the previous category |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press Shift-Tab. The focus changes to the scrollbar.
- Press the up arrow key to scroll to the previous category.
- Press Shift-Tab, down arrow to change the focus to the first item in the previous category. Press Shift-Tab, up arrow to change to focus to the last item in the previous category.

Open a child component list |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press the up arrow or down arrow keys to scroll to a parent component.
- Press the right arrow key to expand the child component list.

Close a child component list |
With the focus on an item in the child component list:
- Press the left arrow key to change the focus to the parent component.
- Press the left arrow key to close the child component list.

Select a child component |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press the up arrow or down arrow keys to scroll to a parent component.
- Press the right arrow key to open the child component list.
- Press the down arrow key to select the child component.

Open the pop-up menu |
If the focus is on an item in the component list:
- Press Shift-F10. The pop-up menu opens. The pop-up menu gives you the options to Add a Component, Cut, Copy, Delete, Change Alphabetically, and Change Component Order.
If the focus is on a category head:
- Press Shift-F10. The pop-up menu opens. The pop-up menu gives you the options to Manage Component Libraries, Create New Category, Delete Category, Rename Category, Paste, Show Alphabetically, Change Component Order, and Change Category Order.

Add a component to the Design window |
With the focus on an item in the component list:
- Press the up arrow or down arrow keys to scroll to the component of choice.
- Press Enter.
- (Optional) With the focus on the component that you want to add to the Design window, press Shift-F10.
- From the pop-up menu, select Add To Page.
