You can drag the Standard JavaServer Faces Inline Message component
from
the Palette to the Visual Designer to create a message for a single
component, such as an error or warning message for an input component.
- This component is a JavaServer Faces reference implementation that cannot use themes. The Message component in the Basic category of the Palette does support themes and provides other features that improve ease of use.
The two message components, Inline Message and Message List, display error messages for component rendering and validation. Inline Message displays error messages for a specific component.
After dropping the component on the Visual Designer, you can do a number of things with it:
- Select the component and drag it to another area on the
page or resize it.
- Select the component and edit its properties in the Inline
Message property
sheet. Some typical properties you might set are:
- id. The name of the Inline Message component.
In the JSP file, this name is the value of the component's
id attribute. In the page bean, this property's
value is the name of the HtmlMessage object.
- for. Specifies the component for which the Inline
Message component displays messages. If there are errors
in the component, the Inline Message component renders
the messages as HTML on the page in a <span>
tag. Otherwise, the Inline Message component is invisible.
- Various style properties that set style classes or specific
CSS styles for the message. The styleClass and style properties
affect the message unless there are settings for the error,
information, fatal, or warning message styles. By default,
CSS classes are provided for each type of message, so
setting styleClass has no effect unless you delete the
class settings for the specific types.
- id. The name of the Inline Message component.
In the JSP file, this name is the value of the component's
id attribute. In the page bean, this property's
value is the name of the HtmlMessage object.
