You can drag the Standard JavaServer Faces Message List component 
from
the Palette to the Visual Designer to create a list of messages
for a page or set of components.
- This component is a JavaServer Faces reference implementation that cannot use themes. The Message Group component in the Basic category of the Palette does support themes and provides other features that improve ease of use.
The two Standard message components, Message List and Inline Message, display error messages concerning component rendering and validation.
- This component, Message List, reports all errors on all
components on the page, including errors with the page itself.
You can put a Message List component on your page to assist
with debugging as you are developing the page.
- The Inline Message component
reports errors for a single component. Use Inline Message
if you want to provide error messages to the users of your
page.
After dropping the component on the Visual Designer, you can do a number of things with it:
- Select the component and drag it to another area on the
page.
- Select the component and edit its properties in the Message
List property
sheet. Some typical properties you might set are:
- id. The name of the component. In the JSP file,
this name is the value of the component's id
attribute. In the page bean, this property's value is
the name of the HtmlMessages object.
- Various style properties that set style classes or specific
CSS styles for the message. The styleClass and style properties
affect the message unless there are settings for the error,
information, fatal, or warning message styles. By default,
CSS classes are provided for each type of message, so
setting styleClass has no effect unless you delete the
class settings for the specific types.
- id. The name of the component. In the JSP file,
this name is the value of the component's id
attribute. In the page bean, this property's value is
the name of the HtmlMessages object.
