You can drag the Standard JavaServer Faces Output Text component 
from
the Palette to the Visual Designer to provide instructions, titles,
headings, and similar text information for your pages.
- This component is a JavaServer Faces reference implementation that cannot use themes. The Static Text component in the Basic category of the Palette does support themes and provides other features that improve ease of use.
Use this Standard component rather than the Standard Component Label component for simple text areas like headings and information. The Standard Component Label component is used for attaching a label to a component, like a text entry field (Text Field component) or a checkbox.
After dragging the component to the Visual Designer, you can do a number of things with it:
- Change the displayed text of the component by selecting the the component
and typing the new text. Press Enter to save the text in the component's
value property.
- Note: The label Text initially displayed for this component is a placeholder that goes away when the component is rendered. If you want a default label to appear in your application, you must add one either by typing in the component, editing the value property, or binding the component to a database or object that supplies the default value.
- Select the component and edit its properties in the Output
Text property
sheet. Some typical properties you might set are:
- id. The name of the Output Text component.
In the JSP file, this name is the value of the component's
id attribute. In the page bean, this property's
value is the name of the HtmlOutputText object.
- value. The text that displays on the page.
- converter. A JavaServer Faces converter
that produces the correct type of value for the value
property. See List
of Validators and Converters for a full list of converters.
- id. The name of the Output Text component.
In the JSP file, this name is the value of the component's
id attribute. In the page bean, this property's
value is the name of the HtmlOutputText object.
- Right-click the Output Text component and choose one of
the following options:
- Bind to Data. Opens a dialog box that enables you to bind the component's
valueproperty to a data provider or an object so your application can evaluate it when the page is submitted. For more information, see Bind to Data Dialog Box.
- Property Bindings. Opens a dialog box that enables you to bind the properties of the component to other objects or properties that supply data for the values of this component's properties.
