System Requirements

The Sun Web Developer Pack, Release 2 (SWDP) software is supported on the following platforms:

To install the Sun Web Developer Pack software, you need the J2SE 5.0 or Java SE 6 software already installed on your computer. The Sun Web Developer Pack has been tested extensively with the J2SE 5.0 software and less so with the Java SE 6 software. You can download the J2SE 5.0 software from here or the Java SE 6 software from here.

You should have at least 140 megabytes of free disk space and 140 megabytes of free temporary disk space before attempting to install the Sun Web Developer Pack software.

Installation Instructions

  1. Download a Web container.
  2. Before you download and install the Sun Web Developer Pack , download and install a web container to use. Get the web containers (Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 9.0 Update 1 Patch 01, GlassFish v1 UR1, GlassFish v2, Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 Update 1, or Apache Tomcat 6) here.

  3. Download the self-installing Sun Web Developer Pack executable or run it from the download site.
  4. You can either download the Sun Web Developer Pack installable software from here or run it directly from the download site.

  5. Run the Sun Web Developer Pack installer.

  6. On Windows, Solaris, and Linux, select either the "No Web Container Integration" option or the web container into which you will install and integrate the Sun Web Developer Pack software. Follow the instructions that are displayed. On the Macintosh, follow the instructions in the Integration Notes to integrate the Sun Web Developer Pack software with a container.

    If you did not install a web container, you can get one here or select the "No Web Container Integration" option. Then, after you obtain and install a supported container, run the integration script for that container to integrate your Sun Web Developer Pack installation into your web container installation. See the Integration Notes for more information.

    Either accept the default installation location (for example, in the C:\Sun\swdp directory on Windows) or provide your own location.

    In addition, on Windows there will be an entry for Sun Microsystems --> Sun Web Services Developer Pack in the Start --> Programs menu.

  7. Download the NetBeans IDE 5.5.1 RC1 software and install.
  8. You can download the NetBeans 5.5.1 RC1 software from here.

  9. Register Your Application Server Instance with the NetBeans IDE

  10. You need to register your Application Server installation as a NetBeans Server Instance. Follow these instructions to register the Application Server in NetBeans IDE 5.5.1.

    1. Select Tools-->Server Manager to open the Server Manager dialog.
    2. Click Add Server.
    3. Under Server, select Sun Java System Application Server and click Next.
    4. Under Platform Location, enter the location of your Application Server installation.
    5. Select Register Local Default Domain and click Next.
    6. Under Admin Username and Admin Password, enter the admin name and password created when you installed the Application Server.
    7. Click Finish.

  11. Download and integrate the Sun Web Developer Pack R2 plug-in for the NetBeans IDE.
  12. Integrate the Sun Web Developer Pack R2 plug-in into the NetBeans 5.5.1 IDE:

    1. Choose Tools -> Update Center.
    2. Select NetBeans Update Center Beta. Click Next.
    3. Select Sun Web Developer Pack R2 in the Available Updates and New Modules pane and click Add to move the items to the Include in Install pane.
    4. Click Next and then click Accept in the Licensing dialog.
    5. Click Next when the IDE finishes downloading eleven modules from the Update Center.
    6. Select all eleven downloaded modules and click Finish.
    7. Select Tools -> Options -> Miscellaneous.
    8. Expand Web Pack Options and browse to the location of your Sun Web Developer Pack installation.
    9. Click OK.

  13. Start using the Sun Web Developer Pack.

  14. Your computer system should now be ready to use the Sun Web Developer Pack.

  15. Uninstall the Sun Web Developer Pack.

  16. If you should ever want to uninstall the Sun Web Developer Pack, do one of the following:
