Java DB and Derby
Java DB is based on the Apache Derby open source project and Sun is an active participant in this active community. Sun's Java DB developers contribute their work back to the Apache Derby community. Java DB may include some features or bugs fixes that have not yet been released in Derby, or it may include some value-add modules, but Java DB does fork from the Apache Derby core code. Sun is committed to supporting and working within the Derby community.
Like other Apache projects, anyone can participate by joining the Apache Derby user list.
Apache Derby is a community-based project that welcomes people to contribute to the project, either with code, papers, use cases, or through improving the documentation. If you'd like to get involved, please see the Apache Derby community page.
