Pump Up Your Technical Knowledge
Listen and watch as industry luminaries bring you the latest on Java technologies
This session looks at two Java Specification Requests (JSRs) that are central to the Java Platform, Standard Edition 7 (Java SE 7 platform). JSR 294 (Improved Modularity Support in the Java Programming Language) seeks to address issues of information hiding in large, multipackage projects through new language features. JSR 277 (Java Module System) aims to address many issues associated with Java Archives (JARs), such as the lack of version control and difficulties in deploying multiple JARs, by defining an architecture for modularity that includes a distribution format, a versioning scheme, a repository infrastructure, and runtime support. Effectively, JSR 294 provides the concept of a module during development, whereas JSR 277 provides first-class module support at deployment.
