Name Motorola Developer Program
General Description Motorola provides integrated communications solutions including wireless telephone and messaging, two-way radio products and systems and networking and Internet-access products. Motorola developed the Motorola Developer Program to support developers in their efforts to create and market wireless applications. The program provides access to a wealth of services and support, including assistance in getting application ideas to market, training classes that range from overviews to in-depth courses, instantly accessible online technical support, application certification and industry-leading development software. Motorola chose Metrowerks to manage the program, because Metrowerks has demonstrated over the years its ability to create and manage large communities of developers for its customers.

    Motorola strives to provide the latest cutting edge development tools and device features to enable compelling wireless applications. Motorola makes available numerous SDKs including Motorola J2ME 3.0 SDK.

    The FAQ index includes FAQs about Motorola's developer program as well as technical FAQs.

    MOTOCODER technical is available for inquiries about implementing wireless solutions as well as technical support of wireless development tools and products. The service is available online to MOTOCODERs who purchase a support contract.

Business Services Provided Registered users who choose to contract and become a vendor with Motorola have access to MotoFolio, an e-commerce application hosting service. Through Motofolio, developers are able to provide wireless applications and content to network operators and other entities distributing wireless content to the consumers in the global wireless subscriber base.

Developer Training Offerings Motorola offers both classroom and online training in a variety of technologies, focusing primarily on software development using Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) technology. Online training is available at the Motorola Developer Learning Center. Classroom courses are available on request if you have a sufficient number of students or at select Motorola facilities worldwide. If relevant, describe different certification types/levels: To receive certification, an application must pass a rigorous battery of tests conducted by an independent, Motorola-authorized test house. Tests cover general product requirements as well as specific compatibility issues to ensure that an application has a consistent user interface and a high-quality standard of operation across Motorola's range of products. Motocoders also offers Metrowerks Certification for on charge on applicaitons that qualify. Applications that successfully pass the certification process earn the right to use the industry-recognized Motorola Compatible logo.

. The following is a summary of the process:
  1. Developers must register as a Motorola Developer member prior to submitting applications to the certification program. Developers are also required to run all tests prior to submission.
  2. Download the relevant Developer's Guide to obtain test cases, information on the test process and submittal instructions.
  3. Complete the on-line application form. You will be sent an email to confirm your request.
  4. You will then be forwarded the application schedule and payment section.
  5. The testing service will then contact you for more detailed information about your application, pricing, and scheduling options.

If relevant, please describe different partnership types/levels: Online Members have download access to SDKs and access to online tech forums and fee-based programs such as the certification program, training on Motorola's devices and platforms, wireless lab with prototype devices, and the MDP online store. Online Members also receive the monthly newsletter and are able to personalize the Motorola Developer Program website.
