About the Book
Java 2 Micro Edition, part of John Wiley & Son's Professional Developer's Guide series, is the first book to explore the newest edition of Java 2, the Micro Edition (J2ME). J2ME subsets the Java 2 Standard Edition runtime environment so that Java programs can run on handheld and embedded devices with limited memory and computing resources, devices like cellular telephones or personal digital assistants. The book describes how J2ME was developed and showcases a number of different J2ME implementations by different vendors, as well as giving you practical advice for working with small computing devices.

Chapter 3,
"Programming Strategies for Small Devices," discusses design and
coding strategies that you can use in order to write Java programs
that work on small devices.
Chapter 4,
"Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME)," introduces the Micro Edition and
explains how it fits into the bigger Java technology picture.

new virtual machine called the KVM.
