Yes. Support for multi-locales on a single instance is an important feature for global enterprises and service providers because it allows them to have multiple languages running on the same server. Q:
What is the licensing model for Portal Server 7?
A:
Sun offers a single, no cost distribution of Portal Server software for development and deployment. Warranty, indemnification, patches, updates, upgrades and help are not provided if the software is utilized in the no cost distribution model. Customers who need the benefits of a supported Portal Server (i.e. Support updates, patches, upgrades, and warranty) must purchase a Portal Server license and support subscription.

Portal Server is licensed at US$57K per CPU or per socket, which entitles the customer to one CPU or one socket that includes a restricted use license for Sun Java System Access Manager, Sun Java System Directory Server, Sun Java System Web Server and Sun Java System Application Server (Enterprise Edition). "Restricted use" means that use of those components capabilities outside of a Portal interface is not covered by the license, e.g., users are not licensed to access web applications which are outside the portal interface, additionally, application Single-Sign-On is not licensed for applications which are not accessed through the portal, etc. Of course, the license can be extended to cover additional usage outside of the Portal.

  • Pilot Installations — A pilot option is currently available whereby the evaluation copy of the software is provided with a 90-day support contract for only $US10K.
