The Java 2 Platform, Enterprise
Edition (J2EE) specification for version 1.4 has received unanimous approval from the Executive Committee of the Java Community Process and is now final. The J2EE 1.4 platform delivers Web Services Interoperability and updates specifications for JavaServer Pages, Enterprise JavaBeans, and Connectors, along with other features which
establish J2EE 1.4 technology as a premier Web services and enterprise application integration platform. Download the SDK now.
J2ME Wireless Toolkit 2.1 Beta is now available. In addition to MIDP 2.0, Wireless Messaging API 1.1, and Mobile Media API 1.1, this release also adds support for JSR-185 (JTWI) clarifications, floating point support with CLDC 1.1, as well as the new J2ME Web Services API (JSR-172). Coincident with this release is the availability of Sun ONE Studio 5, Mobile Edition EA which provides specific support for J2ME WTK 2.1 Beta and the J2ME Wireless Connection Wizard for integrating J2ME with J2EE applications.
Updates to the Developer Forums. This month, Sun launched the latest version of the Developer Forums with a new look and feel. This latest version provides new functionality, allowing developers to set forum level watches which indicate that an entire forum is of interest to them. Developers can then elect to have e-mail notifications sent to them when their selected forum is updated. This service is in addition to notifications regarding community response to questions developers themselves have posted.
