This white paper discusses the factors affecting the work of software developers when adopting the Solaris 8 Operating System, especially compatibility issues with existing applications. It then describes features added in the Solaris 8 OS, and it summarizes those added in earlier versions (2.6 and 7) of the Solaris OS. Features that are not directly related to code development, such as installation enhancements and system administration, are not discussed here.
