Chapter 1. Testing Third-Party PCI Cards

Introduction

The test plan is designed to:

  • Verify the capability of IHV PCI cards to function correctly on SPARC PCI systems.

  • Minimize customer uncertainty about using IHV PCI cards with SPARC systems.

  • Provide test reports on the PCI web page for IHV PCI cards tested on SPARC systems.

  • Provide an entry point for the SunReadyTM program.

Goals of the SBus-to-PCI transition program include prequalifying vendors for application to the SunReady program, promoting customer awareness, and enabling identification and selection of high quality add-on PCI products for Sun's PCI platform customers. The SunReady program will require a higher or stricter level of testing than that described in this document. Part of the criteria for receiving the SunReady logoTM will also require testing by an independent testing house. This test plan does not cover all SunReady test requirements.

An IHV accepted into the SBus-to-PCI transition program is eligible to do testing in Market Development Engineering's (MDE) IHV labs, provided there are proper resources available. IHVs who want to do testing in the labs must be willing to provide their products, test suites, and any special test equipment, if required. Certification of products tested in the IHV lab requires that both IHV test suites (wherever applicable) and Sun's test suites (if applicable) run successfully. Requests for testing and feedback should be directed to the MDE contact assigned to the IHV.
