Sun Studio Express - June 2007 Build

NOTE: This release has been deprecated in favor of the latest version of Sun Studio Express. This page is being maintained for information purposes only for the current users of this Express build.

What Is This?

The Sun Studio team offers interim development builds of future Sun Studio product releases. These builds allow you to preview and provide feedback on new features and enhancements under development.

What is a Sun Studio Express Build?

Express builds are fully-functional, quality software that focus on new features being introduced into the Sun Studio product. The intent is to collaborate with the developer community by gathering feedback through the Sun Studio forums and the bug/RFE (request for enhancement) database. Note: These Express builds should not be used to generate production-level applications.

New in This Express Build

Project D-Light has been added to the compilers and tools that are currently under development for both SPARC and x86 platforms. This new feature is described in detail in the June 2007 Express README. This release also includes fixes to bugs reported in previous builds.

Project D-Light

Project D-Light makes sophisticated application and system profiling, accessible. For the first time, you can optimize your application and system environment by visualizing performance bottlenecks and resource contention up and down the application system stack.

Using an intuitive drag ‘n’ drop interface, D-Light provides an extensible library of instruments that represent the latest advances of profiling technology, including dynamic tracing (DTrace). With instruments like CPU accountant to Sampler, you can use the interactive GUI to quickly profile and peer into the runtime behavior of your applications.

Where's the Documentation?

Project D-Light is documented in a tutorial that is linked to from the README file. The man pages and readmes in the download bits have not been updated for this express program build.
