Operating system patches and product patches are provided for Sun Studio 8 software. These patches are required for the proper operation of the compilers and tools in this release. Appendix B, in the Sun Studio 8 Installation Guide, lists both the Solaris Operating System (OS) patches and the Sun Studio 8 patches that are included with this release.
Java 2, Standard Edition (J2SE) technology required patches are provided in the J2SE installer for Sun Studio 8 software. These patches are required for the proper operation of the J2SE technology with the Solaris Operating System (OS). Appendix C, in the Sun Studio 8 Installation Guide, lists the Solaris OS patches that are included with this release.
Both the Operating system and J2SE patches are installed automatically unless you change the default selection on the Select Components page during the installation processes. For detailed information, please refer to Appendix B and C in the Sun Studio 8 Installation Guide. And remember, you can always get the latest revision of the patch from Sunsolve.
Please note
The compiler packages in Sun Studio 8 are identical to those in the
previous product, Sun ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection. These packages therefore use the previous release's patches, which are listed on this page along with any new Sun Studio 8 patches. However, some tools such as dbx, dmake, and the performance analysis tools have been updated in Sun Studio 8, and the Sun ONE Studio 8 Compiler Collection patches should NOT be applied to these tools. The specific patches that should not be applied are:

If you should accidentally apply one or more of these patches, you can
restore Sun Studio 8 by backing out the patch (using patchrm).
